Do gestational carriers share DNA with the baby?
Gestational carriers do not share DNA with the baby. Instead, the embryo is created using the eggs and sperm of the intended parents or donors. The gestational carrier (commonly referred to as the surrogate by us) carries the pregnancy but is not genetically related to the child. This distinguishes gestational surrogacy from traditional surrogacy, where the surrogate uses her own eggs and is thus the biological mother of the child. NewGen Families only facilitates gestational surrogacy arrangements.
Do I need to live near my surrogacy agency?
We have staff members located throughout the USA, and we are able to coordinate everything remotely, so you do not need to live close to the agency or the IVF clinic. The only location requirement, if you are a surrogate, is that you live in a surrogacy-friendly state. There are no location requirements for intended parents.
If I match with international IPs, do I need to travel to their country?
No, you will never need to travel outside the USA during your journey. If you choose to work with international IPs, they will always travel to you.
Can I be a surrogate if I’ve never had a baby?
Unfortunately not, you must have successfully carried a pregnancy to term and given birth, both without complications as per American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) guidelines.
Why is my BMI important?
BMI guidelines are set by the IVF clinics due to health reasons and to ensure that you will respond appropriately to the medications necessary for your surrogacy journey.
Can I be a surrogate if my tubes are tied?
Yes, a tubal ligation has no impact on your ability to become pregnant via IVF or carry a pregnancy to term.
Can I be a surrogate if I have an STD?
It depends on your specific circumstances. This is something we can discuss during your initial call as part of the application process.
Do I need health insurance to become a surrogate?
We partner with expert insurance brokers to assess your existing insurance policy or to purchase insurance if you do not have a policy. If your existing policy is deemed to be surrogacy friendly, the policy can be used for your journey. If there is doubt around whether your policy is surrogate friendly or it expressly states that it is not, the intended parents will purchase a new policy for you through the insurance brokers during open enrollment. In most cases you can keep your current policy as the secondary policy.

Where do I find an egg or sperm donor?
Through our trusted partners, NewGen offers you access to some of the largest egg donor databases in the USA. All egg donor profiles contain information about their motivations to donate, education level achieved, family medical history and you can also access a donor’s comprehensive family health and genetic history report.
How do I select an egg or sperm donor?
Selecting an egg donor is one of the most important decisions that you will make as an intended parent. The decision involves both individual preferences and important medical decisions. We will help you access an extensive donor database and ensure that you find a donor that is medically suitable and meets your preferences.

This all depends on whether the donor has opted to be a known donor. During your initial consultation with us, we talk in depth about the egg donor selection process and will support you in finding the right donor to assist you.
Are the egg or sperm donors genetically screened?
All of the donors in the US programs that we partner with are genetically screened. The sperm provider, whether it is the intended father or a sperm donor, will also undergo genetic screening. Your treating doctor will assess the results of both screening tests before a match is confirmed.
